Carl Czerny (1791-1857) Austrian
One of the books I use for teaching Beginner Students is Czerny Opus 599. And I can tell you many reasons why…

▪︎ First of all, a brief history about Carl Czerny. He was a great pianist, an important piano teacher and composer during the 19th century. He composed many pedagogical studies for students, Opus 599 is just one of his compositions.
▪︎ Czerny Opus 599 is both technical and musical. It’s not like a boring technical-warm-up-book. It’s more of an album of short piano pieces itself.
▪︎ Opus 599 focuses in 1 particular study at a time. Then it gives you combinations of studies as you progress in each Exercise.
▪︎ It’s a great study for reading notes and learning rudiments and theory in music.
▪︎ It can serve as first steps in learning more difficult piano pieces. It’s highly progressive when done right.
▪︎ Czerny was a student of Beethoven. That’s a big deal.
▪︎ Franz Liszt was a student of Czerny. That’s a big deal.
This video is my student practicing Czerny. Please watch.
I can go on and on about the value of Czerny in my teaching…we can talk about this further at your piano lesson.
